The Challenge
Handle large volumes of photos and videos (HEIC, long videos) on mobile with smooth rendering, simple sharing and an onboarding that retains new users, while shipping frequent releases on both stores.
The Solution
Server-side media pipeline (ImageMagick thumbnails, HEIC conversion), optimised viewer with placeholders, guided tour shown to new sign-ups only, combinable album filters, and a steady release cadence with aligned iOS/Android versions. Self-managed hosting on a Linux VPS: Docker Compose, Traefik + Let's Encrypt, GHCR images built by GitHub Actions, database backups.
